About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own the product vision, technical strategy, engineering execution, and AI roadmap
Define and execute the multi-year product and technology roadmap
Establish product management discipline, prioritization frameworks, and release planning
Balance innovation with platform stability during California CALPADS and Michigan MiDataHub compliance cycles
Partner with Customer Success, district stakeholders, Sales, and executive leadership
Lead AI-first development practices and define practical, explainable AI product capabilities
Ensure AI design respects data locality, deployment boundaries, and K–12 regulatory constraints
Partner with Banyan’s AI team and internal AI Council
Lead approximately eight direct reports across development and database administration
Build team structure, processes, development standards, quality expectations, and release cadence
Own cloud, hybrid, and on-premise platform architecture strategy
Modernize the VB.NET legacy platform without disrupting mission-critical operations
Ensure tenant isolation, security, and operational reliability
Develop the on-premise managed services opportunity
Serve as primary executive authority for product and technology decisions
Engage the Michigan consortium as a co-development partner
Keep the CEO informed of key decisions, risks, and strategic or reputational implications

Requirements

What you’ll need

Genuine AI-first development capability and active practitioner experience
Strong technical foundation in infrastructure, architecture, and platform operations
Experience with hybrid, on-premise, or district-managed deployments
Product strategy and roadmap ownership with commercial logic
Team-building experience in small, complex environments
Change management maturity
US work authorization
Ability to work in Pacific Time
Southern California strongly preferred
Low-ego, high-accountability leadership approach
Credibility with technical and business stakeholders
Sound judgment in pacing organizational and technical change
K–12 software or EdTech experience strongly preferred
Legacy modernization experience; VB.NET familiarity a plus
Experience at companies under 200 employees strongly preferred
