About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the Risk Function in safeguarding the bank's financial and operational stability
  • Develop strategic direction for risk, including implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes
  • Manage the risk department, including oversight of risk colleagues and performance
  • Implement risk priorities and objectives and oversee department efficiency and effectiveness
  • Manage relationships with risk stakeholders and maintain the quality of external third-party services
  • Adhere to Risk policies, standards and frameworks and maintain a robust control environment
  • Deliver Business Banking's Economic Crime transformation agenda
  • Lead complex change programmes across Technology and Operations
  • Strengthen risk and controls across KYC, Sanctions, Transaction Monitoring and Fraud
  • Drive delivery through effective operating models, governance and tools
  • Reduce Financial Crime risk and achieve strategic outcomes
  • Advise functional leadership teams and senior management on areas of impact and alignment
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment in support of control and governance objectives
  • Collaborate with other business areas to align support with business activity and strategies
  • Develop innovative solutions through sophisticated analytical thought and extensive research
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead, coach and develop high-performing teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Proven experience delivering complex change and transformation programmes, including operational changes, remediations, and technical builds
  • Considerable expertise in risk, controls, business and delivery management aligned to strategic objectives
  • Experience with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
  • Accountability for delivery standards, with delivery assured by Compliance or Audit
  • Extensive Economic Crime experience
  • Deep understanding of AML, Screening, KYC, Transaction Monitoring, Fraud and Scam prevention, financial crime typologies, associated risks, and industry best practice
  • Experience leveraging Machine Learning and AI-driven enhancements to improve Economic Crime detection, prevention, and operational efficiency
  • Ability to lead and influence matrix teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to identify risks and blockers, drive solutions, and escalate issues appropriately
  • People leadership experience, with ability to lead, coach, and develop high performing teams
  • Knowledge of Business Banking customers, sectors and products
  • PRINCE2 Project Management Certification (highly valued)
  • Recognised Financial Crime qualification, such as ICA AML Diploma, ACAMS or equivalent (highly valued)
  • Experience leading or contributing to deep-dive thematic reviews, risk assessments, or regulatory remediation activities
  • Control definition and design experience
