About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the Assessment and Remediation business unit on contaminated-site investigation, evaluation, and remediation projects
  • Assist with environmental site assessments and investigations of contaminated sediment, soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapor
  • Perform and analyze aquifer tests
  • Observe construction, sediment coring, drilling, and monitoring-well installation
  • Develop site conceptual models
  • Prepare drilling logs, geologic maps, cross-sections, technical reports, field notes, chain-of-custodies, emails, data summaries, figures, and draft report sections
  • Assist with technical work plans, cost estimates, contracts, remediation and reclamation strategies and designs, feasibility studies, plans, and specifications
  • Coordinate field activities and logistics, including contractor oversight and equipment preparation
  • Track project progress and document key milestones
  • Analyze environmental data and contribute to remediation and reclamation approaches
  • Evaluate site conditions and identify solutions to environmental challenges
  • Apply regulatory knowledge and scientific reasoning to project work
  • Provide concise status updates to project managers and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients
  • Conduct year-round fieldwork with up to 50% travel and 75% fieldwork expected

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, environmental engineering, or a related degree
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in varying outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work individually in remote locations and on or near water
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, or crouch for extended periods
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment as required by site conditions
  • Ability to safely operate or work around environmental monitoring and sampling equipment
  • Ability to work in rough terrain, industrial facilities, on water, and at hazardous-material cleanup sites
  • Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation
