About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete analyses and designs related to dams, slope stability and stabilization, seepage, settlement, earth retention, and foundations
- Prepare plans and specifications, reports, cost estimates, desktop studies, dam safety inspections, risk analyses, and construction observations
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing projects
- Track project milestones and provide updates to project managers and clients
- Prepare proposals, schedules, and cost estimates for geotechnical investigations and design work
- Develop geotechnical field investigation plans
- Assign geotechnical laboratory tests and analyze laboratory and field data
- Support development of geotechnical reports
- Perform construction observation, dam inspections, instrumentation installation and monitoring, field oversight, and inspections
- Support field staff and provide training and mentorship to other geotechnical engineers
- Travel for domestic fieldwork, up to 10% with an average of up to five continuous days at job sites
- Serve internal and external clients on hydraulic structure projects for power, public, and mining industry clients
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in geotechnical engineering, geological engineering, or civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis
- 15 years of relevant experience
- Strong technical skills in a wide range of geotechnical analysis and design disciplines
- Extensive experience performing dam safety reviews, evaluations, and inspections for embankment dams
- Extensive experience with FERC, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and/or Bureau of Reclamation dam safety and risk informed decision processes and associated technical bulletins
- Familiarity with the design, analysis, and construction of appurtenant structures
- Willingness and ability to occasionally travel
- Geotechnical software experience, including GeoStudio, RocScience, Itasca, Ensoft, and/or BoreDM
- Current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future
- Ability to work in rough terrain, construction sites, industrial facilities, and conditions involving moving machinery, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to lift or move field testing equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation
