About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Proactively support the Director of Risk & Compliance in maintaining a robust quality and risk management framework across a top 100 law firm
  • Manage and support the Onboarding Team Leader and provide management cover for the Onboarding Team when required
  • Oversee onboarding operations, task allocation, query resolution and service quality
  • Conduct monthly one-to-one meetings with the Onboarding Team Leader and regular team catchups
  • Monitor performance and provide updates to senior management and the Director of Risk
  • Act as an escalation point for legal conflicts, AML and other onboarding issues
  • Resolve higher-risk queries and recommend courses of action, escalating to the COLP when appropriate
  • Deliver training on conflicts, AML, client onboarding and related topics
  • Conduct complex conflict analysis and liaise with partners to resolve conflict issues
  • Manage ongoing monitoring, review high-risk matters and provide regulatory guidance
  • Host monthly ongoing monitoring meetings with Senior Managers and the Director of Risk
  • Maintain oversight of high-risk clients, matters and the ongoing monitoring risk register
  • Ensure new business receives appropriate screening and monitoring, including conflict, reputational, AML, CTF, PF and sanctions reviews
  • Keep regulatory and other registers up to date, including Insiders’ List and continuing competence records
  • Provide expertise on SRA Code of Conduct, Principles and conflicts of interest
  • Coordinate regulatory returns, including SRA annual PC renewal
  • Review client and matter requests in Liberate and conduct sanctions and adverse media screening using SmartSearch and Accuity
  • Manage cross-departmental matter issues including information barriers, undertakings and key dates
  • Liaise with colleagues across the firm on Risk and Compliance issues
  • Research regulatory issues
  • Assist with reviewing and creating policies and procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience of onboarding / matter inception in the legal sector
  • Technical knowledge of money laundering legislation
  • Technical knowledge of conflicts of interests
  • Ideally, sanctions requirements knowledge
  • Willingness to learn new skills and develop innovative solutions
  • Ability to build, maintain and nurture relationships
  • Clear communication skills at all levels
  • Ability to work independently without day-to-day direct oversight
  • Client service-focused approach
