About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the construction group on roadway, bridge, underground installation, and treatment plant projects
  • Assist design staff when required
  • Conduct on-site observation of work, repairs, and tests
  • Coordinate construction activities with clients, inspectors, contractors, and public agencies
  • Protect the owner against defects and deficiencies in the work
  • Serve as liaison with contractors and construction management teams
  • Prepare, edit, and format construction reports, technical memoranda, and field documentation
  • Maintain project logs for RFIs, submittals, pay applications, change orders, and correspondence
  • Review contractor submittals for completeness and accuracy
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, schematics, blueprints, and maps
  • Assist with civil engineering, transportation, and municipal client service
  • Assist the Construction Manager in resolving construction conflicts and preparing cost-effective solutions
  • Organize and maintain digital project files
  • Assemble bid packages, project closeout documents, and record drawings
  • Use Bluebeam to review, annotate, and compare plan sets and specifications
  • Check construction drawings for accuracy, consistency, and completeness
  • Track revisions, addenda, and updated construction documents
  • Visit construction sites periodically, approximately 20%
  • Communicate field observations to project engineers and stakeholders
  • Ensure field visits comply with safety standards and PPE requirements
  • Create spreadsheets, charts, and logs using Microsoft Excel
  • Track project quantities, construction progress, and schedules
  • Compile data for monthly pay estimates and contractor invoices
  • Attend meetings, provide status updates, prepare reports and meeting minutes
  • Identify problem areas and recommend resolutions
  • Assist with PowerPoint presentations for progress meetings and internal reporting
  • Report issues to the Construction Manager
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • B.S. degree in Civil/Construction Engineering from an accredited program with an emphasis in construction engineering preferred
  • Professional Engineering License required
  • 5+ years of proven progressive experience in construction engineering
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam for PDF markup and plan set review
  • Experience with Revit or other CAD/BIM software, including viewing and basic navigation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organize large volumes of technical information
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently
  • Basic understanding of construction terminology and processes
  • Ability to travel throughout the greater Houston area and contiguous counties
  • Own transportation
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills
