About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee the work of others and assign work to Water/Wastewater Department employees
  • Manage small and large complex projects involving special skills and multidisciplinary teams
  • Develop strong client relationships and serve as client manager
  • Supervise and coordinate department activities in support of corporate policies, goals, and objectives
  • Attend utility district meetings, sometimes outside business hours
  • Prepare and/or monitor project scopes, budgets, and schedules
  • Coordinate with departments to align projects with client expectations
  • Manage projects within scope, budget, and schedule
  • Represent the company in client and agency meetings
  • Review draft agreements
  • Provide input and approval for project scope and fees
  • Make independent project management and engineering decisions
  • Communicate and coordinate with peers and management
  • Prepare engineering project proposals and statements of qualifications with business development and marketing teams
  • Provide knowledge transfer and staff training opportunities
  • Represent the company in the industry and set an example for staff

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • ABET accredited B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or applicable alternate engineering degree
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas or ability to acquire registration through reciprocity
  • 5 or more years of related experience in client management, project management, or design
  • Experience with municipal utility districts and/or other local municipalities
  • Working knowledge of TCEQ, City of Houston, and County regulations
  • Working knowledge of water and wastewater systems
  • Broad knowledge of engineering principles
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the general public
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to travel throughout assigned office service areas with own transportation
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Strong verbal, computer, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
