About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Facilitate and activate play-based learning programs, experiences, and environments onsite at the museum and in school and community settings
- Lead activation of the museum floor and exhibits through playful interactions, games, open-ended questions, conversations, and parent engagement
- Guide Playful Learning Facilitators and Seasonal Playful Learning Assistants
- Facilitate daily onsite drop-in programs such as Story Times, Pop Ups, Exhibit Activations, and Festivals
- Develop and deliver special seasonal and year-round programs
- Rotate through museum exhibits and engage children and families in playful learning experiences
- Facilitate programs in Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese and translate materials and communications when bilingual
- Partner with Playful Learning Facilitators and Exhibits and Facilities to maintain appealing, clean, and safe spaces
- Lead daily opening and closing of museum exhibits and support closing announcements
- Support program and exhibit setup, cleanup, and breakdown
- Identify and communicate material needs and exhibit/equipment repairs
- Train, lead, and model programs and exhibit activations for facilitators and assistants
- Participate in program ideation, prototyping, planning, and evaluation
- Support program administration and documentation, including supplies, marketing copy, signage, and program write-ups
- Troubleshoot day-of scheduling and operational challenges
- Serve as Floor Lead for the Museum Experience team one to two times per week
- Facilitate the Try It Truck Program in schools and community locations approximately twice a month
- Train to drive the museum’s mobile engineering lab, the Try It Truck
- Support summer camp leadership, staffing, logistics, curriculum development, training, activities, and camper needs
- Perform camp administration including schedules, inventory, supplies, materials, and lost and found
- Communicate with parents and caregivers during camp drop-off, pick-up, and throughout sessions
- Provide welcoming, empathetic, inclusive, and flexible customer service
- Communicate and enforce museum visitor safety and behavior policies
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2+ years of experience working with children ages 0–8 years in formal or informal educational settings
- Experience in education, arts education, early childhood education, museum studies, or a relevant field preferred
- Understanding of early childhood development, pedagogy, and developmentally appropriate practice preferred
- Ability to speak Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese is a plus

- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and troubleshoot in a fast-paced work environment
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills, dependability, flexibility, and an outgoing and friendly personality
- Ability to work with people from various backgrounds and cultures
- Comfort speaking in front of large and small groups
- Ability to bend, kneel, walk, and pick up items for 2–3 hours at a time
- Ability to stand for up to 8 hours and carry up to 50 lbs. for short distances/periods
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather
- Current driver’s license
- Clear Motor Vehicle Record
- Personal car insurance
- Reliable access to a car; local travel is required
- Must undergo and be cleared of an employment background/criminal check if extended an offer
