About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Advise clients on GST/HST, QST, PST, Carbon Taxes, Luxury Tax, and other indirect taxes across Canadian jurisdictions
  • Lead research, analysis, and development of technical positions and practical solutions for complex indirect tax issues
  • Prepare and review client correspondence, technical memoranda, presentations, ruling requests, and other tax advisory deliverables
  • Manage indirect tax compliance and recovery engagements while identifying planning opportunities
  • Represent clients and lead interactions with tax authorities regarding audits, examinations, objections, appeals, voluntary disclosures, and interpretive matters
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and identify opportunities to expand service offerings
  • Collaborate across Tax, Advisory, and Assurance practices to deliver integrated client solutions
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members and review work for technical accuracy, completeness, and quality
  • Support practice growth through business development, networking, proposals, and thought leadership
  • Monitor legislative and administrative developments and communicate implications to clients and internal teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience specializing in indirect taxes within a public accounting firm, law firm, industry, or government environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of GST/HST, QST, provincial sales taxes, and emerging indirect tax regimes
  • Proven ability to manage complex client engagements and provide practical, risk-based advice
  • Demonstrated experience leading tax authority audits, disputes, objections, appeals, and voluntary disclosure matters
  • Strong business development and relationship management skills
  • Exceptional analytical, research, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to coach and develop high-performing team members
  • Collaborative leadership style and commitment to delivering an outstanding client experience
  • Embraces and actively leverages AI, data analytics, and digital tools
  • CPA designation, JD/LLB, or equivalent professional designation is considered an asset
  • Completion of the CPA GST/HST In-Depth Tax Course is preferred
