About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work within BDO’s specialist Innovation & Technology Group and wider Corporate Tax team
- Advise technology and software-sector clients on R&D tax relief claims
- Work on R&D Allowances, grants, international R&D relief, and Patent Box services
- Translate complex technical ideas into non-technical concepts for a broad client base
- Prepare tax returns and computations
- Carry out tax planning and consultancy work
- Deal with HMRC, clients, and third parties
- Identify opportunities to enhance service delivery and provide additional services
- Collaborate with senior managers, directors, partners, and multidisciplinary specialists
- Attend client premises for meetings and on-site reviews
Requirements
What you’ll need- Recognised university degree (MSc/MEng and/or PhD) in Information Technology or Computer Software
- Demonstrable work experience as an engineer, scientist, or in a technical role
- Good sector knowledge
- Experience working with software clients or software-related R&D tax claims as an R&D tax practitioner
- Experience dealing with technological challenges including software architectural design, improving software development processes, developing new tools/APIs, and improving existing tools/APIs
- Excellent spoken and written communication
- Interest in science, technology, and innovation
- Ability to interact with other technical professionals
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to summarise information concisely
- Strong attention to detail and first-time accuracy
- Interest in project and company finances
- Strong numerical ability and ability to apply tax treatment
- Proactive approach to new work opportunities
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- Professional, credible, and trustworthy manner
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
