About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Represent insureds, Beneva, and its subsidiaries before the courts and appropriate tribunals, typically the Superior Court, in matters involving the highest levels of complexity, risk, or impact
- Serve as a subject-matter expert and key reference point for complex, strategic, and extraordinary litigation matters outside the normal course of business
- Develop and implement legal, procedural, and settlement strategies for complex matters
- Act as a mentor and resource for other team members
- Participate in strategic and cross-functional projects involving complex legal issues or significant risks
- Participate in various industry and Beneva committees related to expertise in insurance litigation
- Provide strategic legal advice to senior leadership regarding risks and preferred courses of action in sensitive or high-impact matters
- Contribute to reporting and analyses prepared for executive bodies in connection with strategic matters under the role’s responsibility
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Law
- Member in good standing of the Quebec Bar for at least 15 years
- At least 10 years of relevant experience handling property and casualty insurance litigation matters, strategic files, sensitive investigations, major operational incidents, or high-risk regulatory issues
- Fluency in French, both spoken and written
- Advanced proficiency in English, both spoken and written
- Expertise in litigation, primarily in property and casualty insurance and, secondarily, in life and health insurance
