About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Represent Beneva’s affiliated companies before courts, administrative tribunals, and arbitration panels.
  • Manage litigation files across various judicial districts.
  • Draft legal notices and court pleadings.
  • Prepare for and conduct examinations, case management conferences, settlement conferences, and trials.
  • Advise Beneva’s affiliated companies and their representatives on legal matters.
  • Make recommendations and provide a variety of legal opinions.
  • Participate in committees relevant to the performance of the role.
  • Keep up to date and share knowledge regarding legislation, regulations, judicial and quasi-judicial decisions, financial-sector standards, and legal scholarship related to insurance.
  • Collaborate with operational departments on investigations, recovery, compulsory demands or access requests, and civil and commercial litigation matters.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law.
  • Member in good standing of the Quebec Bar.
  • At least 8 years of litigation experience, particularly in property and casualty insurance and life insurance.
  • Experience in all aspects of litigation as a trial lawyer.
  • Strong ability to communicate and advocate for clients’ interests before the courts.
  • Experience interpreting various insurance contracts, including life, group, individual, savings, property and casualty, and surety contracts.
  • Advanced proficiency in spoken and written French.
  • Intermediate proficiency in spoken and written English.
