About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage all aspects of safety performance and Bergelectric’s Work Safe. Live Safe. program across regional sites
- Report to the Regional Safety Manager, Corporate Safety Director, Regional Vice President, or another approved manager
- Visit construction projects, offices, prefabrication shops, and other work locations daily to inspect job sites
- Provide safety leadership and technical assistance to operations teams
- Evaluate safety performance against established targets and report results
- Advise operations and project managers on contractual and company safety requirements
- Attend safety meetings and project startup meetings
- Prepare and review site safety plans, risk assessments, work permits, MOPs, and other safety documentation
- Perform audits and inspections, identify hazards and liabilities, and verify safe working conditions
- Respond to incidents and safety reports
- Verify compliance with company policies, OSHA, and other applicable regulations
- Ensure safety documentation, permits, authorizations, and logs are maintained
- Develop safety competencies in supervisors and site safety personnel
- Meet with foremen, superintendents, and general contractors to identify and correct safety issues
- Manage relationships with client site safety personnel
- Monitor and report completion of safety engagement activities, campaigns, recognition events, and incident reports
- Use designated safety systems and software to manage incidents, audits, inspections, observations, corrective actions, and other safety activities
- Facilitate investigations and subsequent reviews and information sharing
- Collaborate with regional human resources, training, procurement, contracts, and other functions
- Assess project training needs and manage train-the-trainer designations
- Provide safety training to selected personnel
- Maintain required certifications
- Promote the overall safety culture and contribute to internal safety communications, promotions, and campaigns
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5–10 years of experience in safety and/or the construction industry
- Electrical construction experience preferred
- Certified Safety Professional, Construction Health and Safety Technician, Safety Trained Supervisor – Construction, 30 Hour OSHA Outreach/Trainer, EM-385 Accident Prevention Plans, NFPA 70E, Root Cause Analysis Training, or similar/equivalent safety credentials and qualifications preferred
- Demonstrated expertise and working knowledge of safety rules and regulations, including fall protection, silica, confined space, forklift and scissor lift operation, trenching, scaffolding, energy control/LOTO, and general construction safety
- Highly developed interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities
- Highly effective presentation and training delivery skills
- Experience managing incident responses and gathering documentation
- Frequent travel required
- Ability to drive for long periods, utilize ladders, man lifts or reach booms, stand for long periods, and perform full squats, stooping or kneeling
