About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee coordination of internships and other Work-Based Learning opportunities for students in Pre-ETS, Project SEARCH, and transition programs
  • Teach, counsel, assist, and support adolescents and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through skill development and pre-vocational training
  • Provide person-centered support and case management to students, families, employers, and community providers
  • Secure and steward community-based Work-Based Learning sites aligned with student interests
  • Support student orientation and onboarding for WBL placements
  • Assess student progress toward WBL goals and conduct post-placement evaluation and reflection
  • Develop relationships with families, support coordinators, referral sources, and community stakeholders
  • Screen referrals and conduct student intakes
  • Coordinate and implement curriculum covering job exploration counseling, self-advocacy, workplace readiness, WBL experiences, and post-secondary counseling
  • Coordinate services with student support teams according to IEP, IWPP, or ISP needs
  • Assess employer needs through job analysis and identify valuable internship positions
  • Provide job coaching, on-the-job training, site visits, and individualized workplace support
  • Coordinate with Best Buddies staff and WBL supervisors or mentors
  • Manage participant caseloads and document services and communications
  • Initiate transfer of responsibilities to Jobs Program staff after successful program completion
  • Attend required training and participate in virtual and in-person program team meetings
  • Support fundraising events, donor communications, marketing, public speaking, media initiatives, website updates, social media, and Best Buddies Day/Month activities
  • Complete case files, periodic paperwork, funding reports, incident reports, and grievance reports
  • Maintain organized records and use Salesforce Transitions/Pre-ETS or SetWorks Project SEARCH databases
  • Collaborate on billing, reporting, audits, accreditations, and caseload transfers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 years' experience or employment in job coaching, counseling, special education, or related experience working with persons with disabilities; OR a bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of such experience
  • Preferably 1 year experience as an employment consultant or manager in a transitions program and a proven strong record of communications and relationships; OR 1 year experience in special education or vocational training
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, project management, and time management skills
  • Strong written communication and attention to detail
  • Initiative, drive for results, and self-assessment skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfort engaging with people with IDD, meeting new people, and addressing sensitive issues
  • Employment contingent upon accreditation by governing state agency
  • Ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally
  • Frequent local travel, evening and weekend work as necessary
  • Use of a personal cell phone
  • Access to an automobile with applicable insurance
  • Attend training as needed to maintain required certifications per state regulating agency
