About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee coordination of internships and other Work-Based Learning opportunities for students in Pre-ETS, Project Search, and other transition programs
  • Teach, counsel, assist, and support adolescents/young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through skill development and pre-vocational training
  • Provide person-centered support and case management services
  • Engage with families, employers, support coordinators, referral sources, and community providers
  • Secure and steward community-based Work-Based Learning sites aligned with students' interests
  • Support student orientation and onboarding for WBL placements
  • Assess student progress toward WBL goals
  • Conduct post-placement evaluation and reflection with students, support teams, and WBL supervisors
  • Screen referrals and perform participant intakes
  • Coordinate and implement curriculum through classroom instruction, small groups, and one-to-one support
  • Deliver job exploration counseling, self-advocacy, workplace readiness training, WBL experiences, and post-secondary educational counseling
  • Coordinate services with individualized education and support plans
  • Assess employer needs through job analysis and identify valuable internship positions
  • Provide job coaching, on-the-job training, regular job-site visits, and individualized support
  • Coordinate with Best Buddies staff and WBL supervisors/mentors
  • Manage a participant caseload and document services and communications
  • Transfer responsibilities to Jobs Program staff after successful program completion
  • Attend program-related team meetings and support national collaboration and program standards
  • Assist with fundraising events, donor/supporter information, local marketing, public speaking, and media initiatives
  • Contribute content and images for state website and social media
  • Engage participants in Best Buddies Day/Month activities
  • Complete case files, periodic paperwork, funding-agency reports, incident reports, and grievance reports
  • Maintain organized records and use Salesforce Transitions/Pre-ETS or SetWorks Project Search databases
  • Collaborate on billing, reporting, audits, accreditations, and caseload transfers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 years' experience or employment in job coaching, counseling, special education, or related experience working with persons with disabilities; OR a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and one year of such experience
  • Related fields may include rehabilitation, counseling, social work, psychology, education, human resources, business administration, or economics
  • Degree must be from an accredited college or university
  • Preferably 1 year experience as an employment consultant or manager – transitions program and a proven strong record communications and relationship; OR 1 year experience in special education or vocational training
  • Adaptability and ability to quickly and effectively develop and balance multiple relationships and get results from a variety of people
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, project and time management skills
  • Strong written communication and attention to detail
  • Initiative, drive for results, and self-assessment skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfort engaging with people with IDD, meeting new people, and addressing sensitive issues
  • Employment contingent upon accreditation by governing state agency
  • Ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally; frequent local travel required
  • Personal automobile with applicable insurance
  • Ability to use a personal cell phone
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Ability to attend training to maintain required certifications per state regulating agency
