Key responsibilities & impact

  • Develop and implement statewide funding strategies
  • Manage fundraising activities including foundation and corporate giving, individual giving, major gifts, annual giving, events, and alumni/parent relations
  • Develop major fundraising events and use local event committees
  • Research grant opportunities, develop proposals, maintain records, and submit funder reports
  • Manage government grants and contracts and relationships with agency officials
  • Recruit, train, and retain Advisory Board and committee members
  • Cultivate volunteers and manage donor stewardship, gift processing, and thank-you letters
  • Develop statewide public awareness and marketing strategies
  • Build local presence through public speaking, community involvement, media, social media, and special events
  • Manage relationships with public relations professionals and advertising agencies
  • Oversee state website content, images, newsletters, annual reports, and e-newsletters
  • Oversee statewide staff recruitment, hiring, training, evaluations, guidance, and motivation
  • Set staff goals, develop improvement plans, and provide professional development
  • Oversee staff participation in national initiatives, conferences, events, and campaigns
  • Oversee office infrastructure, supplies, postage, IT, equipment, utilities, leases, and office moves
  • Maintain communication with State Operations and Development teams and submit reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or at least 4 years’ relevant experience
  • At least four to seven years progressive experience in fundraising, including success expanding a donor base through cultivation and stewardship, grant writing, event planning/implementation, and board management
  • At least three to five years of management/supervisory experience
  • Superior talent-building and team-building skills
  • Superior persuasive writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to exert influence, inspire others, and articulate the mission, goals, and activities of Best Buddies with passion and enthusiasm
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity/comfort with online database management systems
  • Superior project management skills, including planning, analysis, decision making, and problem solving
  • Willingness to multitask
  • Superior initiative, drive for results, and self-assessment skills
  • Ability to lead individuals and teams in setting and achieving challenging goals
  • Must be highly dependable, lead by example, adapt management style to fit the situation, and hold staff accountable
  • Comfortable engaging with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
  • Must travel, use a personal cell phone, and work evenings and weekends as necessary
