About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine administration and health checks for SQL Server databases in on-premises and Azure environments under senior DBA guidance
- Monitor database availability, capacity, performance, jobs, and alerts; investigate common issues and escalate complex incidents
- Support backup, restore, recovery validation, database refresh, and migration activities
- Assist with user access, permissions, patching, maintenance, and security controls
- Use T-SQL and approved tools for diagnostics, query and index analysis, and task automation
- Maintain documentation, runbooks, inventory, and operational records
- Collaborate with senior DBAs, developers, infrastructure, and security teams
- Participate in scheduled maintenance and an on-call rotation
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1-3 years of relevant experience in database administration, systems administration, or a closely related technical role; equivalent education and practical training may be considered
- Foundational knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and relational database concepts
- Working knowledge of T-SQL, including writing queries and understanding stored procedures, execution plans, and indexes
- Understanding of database backups, restores, recovery models, security permissions, and routine maintenance
- Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation
- Troubleshooting skills and ability to analyze logs, alerts, and performance information
- Strong documentation, communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Ability to follow operational procedures, change controls, and security requirements while handling sensitive financial data responsibly
- Ability to travel during the first 6 months of employment and approximately 5% annually thereafter
- Must already possess valid U.S. work authorization that will not require employer sponsorship now or in the future
- Exposure to Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or other cloud database services
- Familiarity with SQL Server Agent, Availability Groups, Transparent Data Encryption, Redgate SQL Monitor, or Foglight
- Experience using PowerShell, source control, or ticketing and change-management systems
- Awareness of SOX and PCI DSS requirements
- Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate certification or progress toward a relevant Microsoft certification is preferred
