About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build, lead, and grow the DevSecOps practice
- Recruit, onboard, and staff team members across active projects and new pursuits
- Mentor and develop engineers at all levels
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Manage team overhead and staffing allocations with Practice Area Directors and Finance
- Set performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and support career development for direct reports
- Define and own DevSecOps strategy and technical standards across programs and pursuits
- Guide design of secure, scalable, cloud-native platforms covering CI/CD, IaC, container orchestration, identity/access, and observability
- Establish architecture standards, reusable patterns, and governance aligned with NIST, FISMA, and FedRAMP
- Lead legacy-to-cloud migrations, platform hardening, automation, and AI integration
- Serve as an escalation point for complex technical challenges
- Partner with BD/capture teams on win themes and DevSecOps architecture
- Contribute to technical proposal content, staffing plans, and past performance narratives
- Represent Bixal's DevSecOps capabilities in client discussions, solutioning sessions, and orals
- Serve as a trusted technical voice with clients
- Keep senior leadership informed on practice health, staffing, and delivery risk
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in DevSecOps, cloud engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or technical architecture, including federal or highly regulated environments
- At least 5 years of direct people management experience
- At least 3 years of working with federal government contracts and clients
- Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end cloud architecture and delivery outcomes in complex environments
- Deep experience with one or more cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern DevOps practices (IaC, CI/CD, containers/Kubernetes)
- Strong understanding of secure delivery and compliance-driven environments; ability to embed DevSecOps into the SDLC
- Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and retain technical talent
- Experience supporting federal proposals with solutioning, writing, or technical challenges
- Excellent communication skills, including translating complex technical concepts for technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Public Trust clearance determination
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to work in the United States excluding its territories
- No visa sponsorship provided
- Nice to have: Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and/or enterprise architecture credentials
- Nice to have: Experience with Databricks or integrating Databricks into environments
- Nice to have: Experience building reusable platform patterns
- Nice to have: Active participation in DevSecOps or cloud communities, with recent thought leadership
- Nice to have: Master's degree in a related technical or business discipline
- Nice to have: Experience with Agile/Scrum environments and Atlassian suite
- Nice to have: Prior practice lead or government contracting people-management experience
