About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Interact with and monitor direct-hire and major subcontractor supervision and field engineering
- Ensure craft and supervisory performance, productivity, safety, quality, schedule, and contractual requirements are met
- Provide craft supervisors, subcontractors, and construction engineers with technical direction and data
- Communicate schedule requirements and coordinate interpretation of technical requirements
- Ensure compliance with company standards, procedures, and contractual commitments
- Administer union project execution in accordance with national maintenance and project labor agreements
- Establish working relationships with local union representatives and ensure uninterrupted workflow at union interface points
- Stand in for the Construction Manager during site absences when requested
- Mentor and train other discipline superintendents and recommend trainee development needs
- Partner with the Construction Manager on safety, quality, ethical standards, lessons learned, and performance management programs
- Monitor, verify, and report construction activities against the CPM schedule
- Track schedule activities, commodity installation, productivity, progress, and costs
- Resolve drawing, information, schedule, quality, quantity, cost, and safety issues with craft, subcontractors, and superintendents
- Conduct foreman and subcontractor meetings for daily, weekly, and monthly planning
- Develop and monitor three-week look-ahead schedules and corrective plans
- Verify required materials, manpower, and resources are available on site
- Monitor and report punch-list completion
- Maintain daily site logs
- Review timesheets, installed quantity reports, progress payment requests, and supplier representative logs
- Coordinate daily and weekly work plans with other discipline superintendents and the Construction Manager
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with scope and schedule requirements
- Prepare extra-work authorization requests and contractor information requests
- Administer work packages and equipment installation
- Develop and distribute job hazard analyses for major erection packages
- Identify potential back charges and out-of-scope issues and support commercial recovery
- Supervise, train, develop, and manage performance of direct reports
- Supervise general foremen, foremen, subcontractor superintendents, and field engineers
- Participate in hiring, discipline, and pay administration of subordinates
Requirements
What you’ll need- 11+ years of experience as a Superintendent or Construction Manager on equivalent projects
- Valid Driver's License
- OSHA 10 certification
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, which may include criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search
- Construction Management or Engineering degree preferred
- Industrial Relations Training preferred
- Completion of cost control, back charges, and schedule training preferred
- Completion of construction management and contract administration training preferred
- Union and/or union labor-management experience highly preferred
- Budget and cost control skills
- Industrial Relations knowledge for recognizing and resolving potential labor issues
- Knowledge of union agreements and jurisdictional issues
- Knowledge of company construction guides and manuals
- Construction safety awareness and comprehension
- Conflict management skills
- Project management skills
- Constructability knowledge within discipline
- Construction knowledge within other disciplines
- Legal contract understanding, including EPC/subcontracts
