About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own preparation, review and approval of journal entries for accruals, reclassifications, fixed assets, intangible assets and other accounting adjustments
  • Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close
  • Perform balance sheet and general ledger analysis, including fixed asset, lease and intangible asset continuity schedules
  • Investigate unusual balances, fluctuations, reconciling items and data inconsistencies
  • Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX controls and internal accounting policies
  • Support the NetSuite ERP reimplementation by gathering requirements, coordinating stakeholder inputs, tracking issues and supporting project deliverables
  • Support data cleansing, migration and validation, including reviewing accounting data, mappings, reconciliations, financial statement integrations and reporting outputs
  • Identify and resolve accounting and systems issues, investigate root causes and recommend practical solutions
  • Partner across Corporate Accounting and Accounting Operations on process improvements, ERP activities and special projects

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own complex general ledger accounting activities, including journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, account reconciliations, fixed assets and intangible assets
  • Ability to take ownership of complex or ambiguous accounting issues, determine appropriate accounting treatment or resolution, and communicate recommendations clearly
  • Strong experience managing month-end, quarter-end and year-end close
  • Ability to review and analyse balance sheet accounts and continuity schedules, investigate unusual balances and reconciling items, identify root causes and drive issues to resolution
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Experience working within a SOX-controlled environment
  • Hands-on NetSuite ERP experience
  • Strong Microsoft Excel capability
  • Ability to identify accounting, process and data issues, assess impact and recommend practical solutions
  • Ability to review the work of others and provide appropriate challenge
  • Experience working across Accounting, Finance and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to operate independently in a changing environment, prioritise competing deliverables, exercise sound judgement and escalate material risks appropriately
  • Professional accounting designation such as CPA Canada or U.S. CPA
  • Experience supporting an ERP implementation or reimplementation
  • Practical experience with financial data migration, cleansing, mapping, system testing, reconciliation and validation
  • Experience contributing to accounting process improvement, standardisation or finance transformation initiatives
