About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review and clinically verify new and refill prescriptions for therapeutic appropriateness, interactions, contraindications, and dosing accuracy
- Validate pharmacy technician prescription data entry
- Verify filled prescriptions for drug, dose, quantity, NDC, and labeling accuracy before shipment
- Perform daily prospective drug utilization reviews and resolve clinical flags
- Manage specialty medication handling, including cold-chain verification
- Provide outbound counseling calls covering drug education, side effects, dosing, storage, and adherence
- Handle inbound clinical patient calls and document interactions in the pharmacy management system
- Provide bilingual counseling to Spanish-speaking patients where applicable
- Contact prescriber offices to clarify incomplete, ambiguous, or inappropriate prescriptions
- Partner with prescribers on therapeutic substitutions, DAW overrides, and formulary alternatives
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and conduct real-time quality checks
- Escalate technician performance trends and participate in coaching and training
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state pharmacy acts, federal DEA regulations, and company policies
- Oversee PHI record handling and destruction
- Participate in audits, prescription error tracking, near-miss reporting, and pharmacovigilance
- Maintain temperature-sensitive medication storage compliance
- Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, patient services, clinical, compliance, technology, shipping, and fulfillment teams
- Provide clinical input on technology and workflow improvements
- Participate in huddles, quality reviews, and department meetings
Requirements
What you’ll need- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy
- Active Missouri Pharmacy License in good standing with the Missouri Board of Pharmacy
- Strong command of the English language, written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to perform high-volume prescription verification with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn pharmacy management systems, verification platforms, and internal workflow tools
- Bilingual Spanish preferred for phone-based patient counseling
- 3+ years of experience in a mail order, specialty, retail, or closed-door fulfillment pharmacy preferred
- Active pharmacy licensure required in home state
- Must obtain licensure in 3 additional listed states within the first 9 months of hire
- Familiarity with pharmacovigilance or adverse drug event reporting protocols preferred
