About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and deliver onboard autonomy algorithms, control algorithms, and flight software for Blue Moon landers and related lunar products
  • Derive and develop autonomy requirements
  • Perform analyses and trades to validate requirements
  • Maintain subsystem specifications and performance metrics
  • Collaborate with GN&C, subsystem, and spacecraft systems engineers
  • Support development of low- and high-fidelity plant models
  • Build control code in Simulink to support autocoding to target
  • Support development and execution of simulations and verification tools
  • Use MATLAB and Simulink to analyze, unit test, and verify control and autonomy algorithms
  • Support verification and testing to ensure subsystem compliance with requirements
  • Implement onboard autonomy and mechanical, thermal, fluid, and gaseous control systems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a B.S. in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering
  • Applied industry experience and/or M.S. or Ph.D. focused on development of spacecraft autonomy and controls
  • Proven experience in modeling and simulation autonomy and controls operations
  • Familiarity with flight management, guidance, control, navigation, and astrodynamics fundamentals
  • Experience in MATLAB and Simulink
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Preferred: M.S. or PhD in aerospace engineering or related technical field
  • Experience developing and implementing real-time embedded control solutions
  • Experience with full lifecycle development of GN&C and/or spacecraft autonomy
  • Experience developing embedded control systems for complex aerospace systems
  • Experience designing, evaluating, and simulating state machines
  • Experience in Stateflow
  • Experience in C/C++
  • Experience with Confluence and JIRA
  • Familiarity with DO-178, DO-160, and DO-254 or similar guidelines
