About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Implement design, procurement, and production of cryogenic helium subsystems and associated components
  • Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure systems work together and meet requirements
  • Resolve system issues using calculated risk
  • Drive design for manufacturability
  • Implement flight-hardware upgrades identified through root cause analysis, manufacturing, testing, flight, and cost-reduction opportunities
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and technicians to develop work instructions
  • Disposition hardware nonconformances
  • Build and manage project plans covering cost, schedule, and risk management
  • Oversee component- and system-level testing, verification, and data analysis for qualification and hardware acceptance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field
  • Proven experience with spacecraft or launch vehicle fluid system component design, analysis, or test
  • Solid understanding of propulsion and fluid components such as metallic tanks, valves, and fittings
  • Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control for tubes/piping and machined components
  • Design experience using 3D CAD, preferably Creo
  • Experience with 2D and 3D drawings per ASME Y14.5 GD&T
  • Experience preparing detailed analysis reports using Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Preferred: advanced degree in an engineering field
  • Preferred: working knowledge of cryogenic hydrogen and oxygen systems
  • Preferred: experience with computational fluid dynamics or thermal analysis software packages
  • Required: Blue’s Standard Background Check
