About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Act as Cognizant Engineer for development and delivery of a New Glenn upper stage
- Own complete definition, design, development, cost, manufacturability, and delivery of flight hardware
- Ensure complete requirements definition for components and/or systems
- Guide or complete component and system design and analysis
- Own design and development of in-house components
- Work with suppliers or Blue Origin groups to identify and procure procured components
- Lead development, qualification, and acceptance testing and verification
- Manage project cost, schedule, and risk plans to ensure timely delivery
- Lead cross-functional teams delivering assigned components
- Mentor designers, perform technical peer reviews, and check drawings as needed
- Deliver simple, low-cost fluid-system designs that meet functional requirements safely and repeatably
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field
- 5 years of experience in an aerospace propulsion or fluid subject area
- Experience in 3D CAD programs; Creo preferred
- Experience with FEA tools for pressurized systems and secondary structures; ANSYS preferred
- Experience analyzing flow through components or systems
- Understanding of aerospace materials and treatments
- Experience designing, fabricating, and testing components for launch vehicle or ground support systems
- Experience generating and interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Knowledge of propulsion and fluid system components, including valves, regulators, and pressure vessels
- Experience designing and developing seals
- Experience designing and analyzing bolted joints
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Passion for Blue Origin’s mission and vision
- 8+ years’ experience desired
- Experience with launch vehicles, upper stages, spacecraft, or satellites desired
- Experience across the product development cycle from definition through operation desired
- Experience with cryogenic fluids, including liquid oxygen and hydrogen, desired
- Hardware procurement and prototyping experience desired
- Advanced engineering degree desired
- Blue’s Standard Background Check required
