Lunar Operations Training Engineer – III

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead project management for training hardware development, including scope, schedule, budget, and milestones from concept through commissioning
- Serve as the primary technical and programmatic contact between the Mission Operations Training Team and engineering development teams and vendors
- Translate spacecraft-function knowledge and training objectives into verifiable technical requirements for mockups, courses, and software
- Collaborate with systems engineering, structures, crew systems, avionics, and other teams to ensure training products and hardware meet fidelity and functionality requirements
- Oversee verification and validation of training hardware for training effectiveness and human-in-the-loop testing
- Own project operational documentation, including project plans, interface control documents, test procedures, and operational manuals
- Own requirements, development, and execution of spaceflight mission training events using instructor-led training, mission rehearsals, and hardware demonstrations
- Train flight controllers, astronauts, and other mission team members
- Analyze operational requirements and develop comprehensive training solutions, including mockups, curriculum, and simulations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of a B.S. degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent professional experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience in operations, systems engineering, or project management
- Experience owning projects from requirements definition through delivery
- Experience with system-level integration and test activities, such as Test Readiness Reviews
- Ability to work independently on problems of varied scope with minimal oversight
- Sound technical judgment to resolve issues
- Highly organized, with ability to self-manage and execute complex technical projects
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Established professional expertise applying engineering fundamentals across requirements, design, fabrication, V&V, and test
- Experience in public speaking, technical instruction, or mentoring junior team members
- Experience in instructional design or training for high-consequence operations
- Experience designing, building, or operating human-interfacing systems, high-fidelity mockups, simulators, or complex training hardware
- Experience with human-in-the-loop testing and test procedure development
- Familiarity with simulation architecture or the software development lifecycle
- Experience working with NASA, government agencies, or commercial human spaceflight partners
- Proficiency with project management tools such as Jira and Confluence
- Experience with CAD file generation and manipulation, especially in Creo
