About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the manufacturing technical focal for assigned subsystems and/or Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) activities
- Establish manufacturing plans for vehicle architectures and present solutions to leadership
- Plan and support builds of engineering demonstrators, test articles, and prototype hardware
- Provide hands-on support during fabrication, assembly, and testing to validate manufacturing approaches
- Drive Design for Excellence (DFX) principles and conduct producibility assessments
- Support trade studies and develop roadmaps to bridge manufacturing technology gaps
- Develop Production Readiness Level assessments, manufacturing management plans, build strategies, facility capacity plans, and tooling designs
- Partner with Program Management, Design Engineering, and Operations support teams to identify manufacturing risks and establish mitigation plans
- Influence design and programmatic decisions
- Mentor engineers and foster integrity and continuous improvement
- Support Blue Origin's Advanced Concepts & Enterprise Engineering programs from initial concept through preliminary design definition
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field
- Strong understanding of component and system development lifecycle from concept through production
- Ability to provide technical leadership, set strategic direction for manufacturing solutions, and apply project management skills across multiple stakeholders
- Experience planning and supporting R&D hardware builds, including design requirements, manufacturing work instructions, BOMs, process documentation, and non-conformance resolution/RCCA
- Proven success influencing design requirements and developing manufacturing processes
- Experience with CAD systems (NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks) and PLM tools
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presenting to senior leadership
- Flexibility to support critical milestones, potentially requiring extended hours
- U.S. citizenship or nationality, U.S. permanent residency, or lawful admission as a refugee or asylee
- Preferred: 5+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, or similarly complex manufacturing environments
- Preferred: Spacecraft or launch vehicle integration experience in fluids/propulsion, harnessing, electrical power, thermal protection, environmental control and life support, integrated vehicle test, or MGSE/EGSE
- Preferred: Technical leadership experience, with or without direct reports
- Preferred: On-site R&D/prototype experience with novel manufacturing processes, tooling/fixturing/GSE, and DFX
- Preferred: Subsystem or AI&T artifact experience in hardware development programs
- Preferred: Project management experience, training, and/or certification (PMP, Agile, etc.)
- Preferred: Strong knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes and assembly
- Preferred: Knowledge of AS9100, ISO9001, ISO13485, and/or other quality standards
- Technical assessment included in interviews
