About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and lay out high-performance, high-reliability PCBs for aerospace applications
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software engineers to meet design requirements
- Create detailed schematics and layout designs using software such as Altium Designer
- Ensure design and manufacturing practices comply with industry standards and regulations
- Create and maintain technical documentation for PCB layout and design
- Troubleshoot and resolve PCB design and layout issues
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and technicians
- Contribute to electrical circuit designs and schematic reviews
- Participate in PCB/PCBA design reviews with DFM/DFA/DFT input
- Develop and maintain board eCAD design libraries, including part footprints
- Determine approaches and provide reliable solutions to complex PCB layout and assembly problems
- Contribute to PCB development process improvements, procedures, and checklists
- Check the quality of work by internal and external layout resources
- Mentor internal layout resources on PCB layout and Altium best practices
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in PCB layout and design, specifically in the aerospace and defense industry
- Strong understanding of digital, analog, mixed-signal, and high-speed layout and design
- Experience using Allegro, Altium Designer, Eagle PCB, Proteus, or similar software
- Ability to create detailed schematics and layout designs
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations such as IPC-6012 Class 3
- Knowledge and use of PCB best practices for design, manufacturing, and testing, including PCB assembly to IPC Class 3 standards
- High-speed, impedance-controlled stack-up and multi-layer board layout design
- Fine-pitch BGA routing, including blind-buried vias
- Complex analog and digital signal routing
- Multi-rail power delivery and high-speed signal-integrity constraints
- Design constraint management, including trace-length matching and spacing rules
- Ability to create and maintain symbol/footprint libraries
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Excellent attention to detail and strong task ownership
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Experience utilizing and creating electrical design specifications
- Desire to work hands-on, independently and as part of a team throughout development and production phases
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Certifications such as CID, CIS, or CSE are desired
- Familiarity with stripline and microstrip design is desired
