About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and implement TeraWave command and data handling flight software
- Develop telecommand and telemetry processing for command validation, scheduling, execution, health data collection, and downlink management
- Develop spacecraft time management, GPS/GNSS synchronization, and precision timing distribution
- Create and maintain secure software interfaces between C&DH and spacecraft subsystems
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, and autonomy engineers on requirements, interfaces, and subsystem behavior
- Develop and integrate simulation environments and models for nominal and off-nominal scenarios
- Support software architecture, design reviews, and systems engineering trade studies
- Participate in SIL and HIL integration, verification, and validation testing
- Support on-orbit operations and troubleshooting of deployed spacecraft
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical development
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field
- 6+ years of experience in spacecraft flight software or embedded software development
- Strong programming skills in C, C++, and Python
- Understanding of object-oriented problem solving and software layering
- Experience with RTOS such as Linux, QNX, VxWorks, RTEMS, or equivalent
- Experience developing software for spacecraft avionics functions such as C&DH, telecommand and telemetry processing, or hardware I/O management
- Familiarity with CCSDS standards
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles for space systems
- Experience with Google Test or equivalent embedded C/C++ unit testing frameworks
- Experience with IPC mechanisms such as sockets, shared memory, message queues, or publish-subscribe middleware
- Experience with cross-compilation toolchains and embedded Linux build systems such as CMake, Make, Yocto, or Buildroot
- Experience with software lifecycle, Git, CI/CD, and containerized environments
- Experience with verification/validation practices for mission-critical embedded software
- Experience with TCP/IP, UDP, CAN, I2C, SPI, and RS-422/485
- Familiarity with static analysis tools and MISRA C/C++ coding standards
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, refugee, or asylee status required under export control regulations
- Successful completion of Blue’s Standard Background Check
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Preferred: Experience with on-orbit operations, satellite constellation management, OTA updates, onboard time management, NASA cFS, F Prime, FDIR/autonomy, or radiation mitigation
