About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a team of engineers to design, develop, and qualify payload delivery systems
  • Conduct trade studies and estimates for proposals involving external customer technical projects
  • Advise engineering design, mission management, launch operations, production, and launch systems groups on payload requirement integration
  • Plan and coordinate resources for designing, building, testing, and certifying flight hardware
  • Review and approve design concepts, drawings, analyses, test plans, qualification plans, manufacturing and build plans, processes, and procedures
  • Identify and resolve technical issues with design and manufacturing teams and provide shipside support throughout the product lifecycle
  • Review and report monthly cost and schedule variances, corrective actions, finance updates, and schedule updates
  • Support staffing, hiring, and training plans
  • Interface with payload customers to evaluate mission-specific requirements and ensure compliance
  • Integrate customer requirements and develop mission Interface Control Documents
  • Ensure payload system requirements are validated and implemented
  • Manage internal and external customer interfaces through mission integration
  • Ensure FAA, ITAR, Range, and other regulatory requirements are met
  • Support Business Development interactions leading to mission integration and launch contracts
  • Lead spacecraft integration and launch contracts, ensuring commitments are met on time and on budget
  • Develop resource-loaded mission Integrated Master Schedules and coordinate progress
  • Report status updates to leadership and customers and maintain open communication lines

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • B.S. in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Structural, or other related field)
  • 10+ years managing complex, multi-disciplinary, fast-paced aerospace projects
  • 5+ years industry experience in launch system, satellite operations, and dispensing systems
  • Adaptable and able to lead a team through changes in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to travel within the U.S. and abroad
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Collaborative, constructive, positive, and concise communicator
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Blue’s Standard Background Check required
  • FAA/ITAR/Range regulatory compliance knowledge or capability
  • Preferred: exceptional leadership, organizational, team building, and people management skills
  • Preferred: experience in development of launch vehicles and dispensing systems
