About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the full hardware lifecycle from requirements definition through concept development, design, analysis, testing, qualification, and integration
  • Lead analysis of primary and secondary metallic and composite unpressurized structures
  • Complete hand calculations and FEM analyses to report margins of safety for aerospace structures
  • Document stress analyses supporting release of engineering drawings and documents
  • Perform research, develop concepts, and conduct trade studies providing technical guidance on risk, cost, and performance
  • Build system- and detail-level models supporting structural design
  • Own structural test planning, execution, data reduction, analysis, and test report authoring
  • Prepare technical content and present it to internal and external customers
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams throughout design, manufacturing, and mission integration
  • Provide shipside support and technical guidance during spacecraft integration
  • Drive configuration development and trade studies supporting customer requests and proposals
  • Collaborate and negotiate requirements with internal and external customers
  • Improve enterprise analysis capabilities by creating process automation tools for model creation, strength checks, and analysis report generation
  • Coach, mentor, and technically assist junior engineers and analysts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering
  • 10+ years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Experience on recently developed aircraft or launch vehicles in vehicle load path distribution and first-order strength assessment and sizing
  • Experience with skin-stringer, orthogrid, isogrid, and composite sandwich panel design
  • Experience working in a multifunctional organization to develop designs and engineered products
  • Strong understanding of composite and metallic design fundamentals
  • Expertise with industry-standard analysis codes such as Ansys, Nastran, OptiStruct, or HyperMesh
  • Experience in bolted joint design and analysis
  • Structural design experience using CAD, preferably Creo/Windchill, and FEA tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, collaborative attitude, and effective interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, able to take ownership, and drive projects to completion
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Active Top Secret clearance and SCI eligibility, or ability to obtain final clearances
  • Preferred: dynamic separation systems and interface design
  • Preferred: rapid hardware development techniques
  • Preferred: automated fiber placement (AFP) and tape laying (ATL) fabrication
  • Preferred: large-scale out-of-autoclave composite structures fabrication
  • Preferred: manufacturing process development for transition to production
  • Preferred: systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes, and quality control
  • Preferred: Optimization and Design of Experiments (DOE) methods
