About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure spacecraft satisfy critical partner needs
  • Craft vehicle and ground data architectures for mission capabilities
  • Connect flight software data to systems functions, ground operations, and test engineering
  • Shape program requirements, operational descriptions, and system designs to meet customer needs
  • Interpret functional description documents and command/telemetry definitions to create data and data-handling architecture for Blue Ring satellites
  • Guide data format, streams, and storage development and testing
  • Work with spacecraft development engineers, flight software developers, spaceflight operations, and test engineering to implement data architecture use cases
  • Detail data architecture and develop standards and processes
  • Ensure sufficiency in data products and align data interfaces and interactions across interconnected systems
  • Lead Command and Telemetry Database and Parameter Database development
  • Define file management and onboard data storage
  • Manage uplink data, onboard command sequences, data transfer, telemetry downlink, and data prioritization within flight software and memory-management devices
  • Define data placement strategies between CTDB and Parameter data
  • Develop scalable data architecture roadmaps for telemetry and command data across vehicle fleets
  • Anticipate future payload and mission requirements
  • Shape payload, spacecraft, and program data-management and data-handling processes and criteria
  • Travel expected up to 10% of the time

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • B.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, applied mathematics, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in spacecraft development and operations
  • Proven experience developing and managing Command & Telemetry Databases (CTDB)
  • Proficiency in spacecraft telemetry, data management, and command sequencing
  • Familiarity with spacecraft flight software design and architecture
  • Experience with CCSDS standards, including command and telemetry formats
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, JavaScript, C, or C++
  • Background in software development and automation for data solutions
  • Experience with Command and Control (C2) or Flight Software (FSW) software tools
  • Ability to integrate data sets and parameter information files with Integration & Test, Ground & Spaceflight Operations, and Systems Engineering teams
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted refugee or granted asylum
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern software development practices
  • Proficiency applying AI and machine learning techniques to data processing
  • Experience with data governance, security methodologies, and compliance
  • Understanding of the full OSI stack and application/data layers
  • Domain expertise in spacecraft system and subsystem functions, interfaces, and communication protocols
  • Experience debugging and identifying root cause at the hardware/software boundary
  • Experience using hardware testbeds and lab environments for software and system verification
  • Understanding of cloud infrastructure for data deployment and orchestration
  • Experience with Jira, GitLab, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Active TS/SCI is desired but not required
