About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure compliance with design standards, processes, and systems engineering best practices
  • Develop CONOPs, define and analyze requirements, and define interfaces
  • Decompose high-level requirements into lower-level system architecture, design requirements, and functional block diagrams
  • Work with subsystems on requirements definition, verification and validation plans, and alignment with system and mission objectives
  • Coordinate with specialty engineering functions supporting subsystem development teams
  • Oversee verification and validation strategies, plans, and processes for spacecraft hardware and software
  • Oversee test-plan execution, procedures, and results reports
  • Collaborate with I&T, ground systems, flight operations, mission management, and systems architecture teams
  • Identify and assist in managing technical risks
  • Plan and develop system-level verification methods and events
  • Support Assembly, Integration and Test in developing test procedures and scripts
  • Support integration activities on the floor in the spacecraft development facility
  • Manage vehicle-level technical performance measures
  • Participate in program reviews and drive follow-up actions to closure
  • Drive process improvements with ownership and urgency

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace engineering, or equivalent technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, preferably in the space industry
  • 5+ years of related experience in design, development, and flight test of spacecraft systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of systems engineering fundamentals and experience in multiple system lifecycle phases
  • Experience developing an integrated system with depth in one or more spacecraft subsystems and/or system design and integration
  • Experience defining space system requirements and concept definitions spanning a broad range of mission objectives
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Preferred: M.S. degree in a relevant technical field
  • Preferred experience through the entire product development lifecycle from concept through manufacturing and operations
  • Preferred experience defining and performing complex trade studies
  • Preferred experience with design, development, and certification of spaceflight systems
  • Preferred experience with logical and physical architecture definition and decomposition
  • Preferred experience using hardware or software testbeds and lab environments for software and system verification
  • Preferred experience using requirements management software such as Jama
  • Preferred domain experience with spacecraft system and subsystem functions, interfaces, and communication protocols, including serial, 1553, Ethernet, and embedded software
