About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design mission-critical software that monitors and controls launch vehicles and ground support systems
- Lead the discovery phase using research, data, and collaboration to define the right problems to solve
- Own the end-to-end design process from user flows and wireframes through pixel-perfect visual designs and interactive Figma prototypes
- Engage mission operators directly to understand workflows and pain points
- Create user journeys, scenarios, and task analyses
- Improve software quality, consistency, accessibility, and scalability
- Resolve design debt and strengthen the design system
- Translate user needs into clear design specifications
- Partner with developers, understand technical constraints, and ensure accurate implementation
- Build trust, maintain professional relationships, and contribute to an inclusive team culture
- Support development and operations of New Glenn, Blue Origin’s reusable heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong portfolio required, reflecting shipped products rather than concept work
- Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Interaction Design, or a related field, or equivalent years (5+ years) of hands-on experience as a software Product Designer
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality work in a fast-moving, highly collaborative team environment
- Experience interacting directly with software engineers and customers
- High proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools, including Figma and Adobe Creative Suite
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to articulate design rationale
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Experience designing for complex, technical, or data-dense applications
- Experience with safety-critical or mission-critical applications
- Experience building or contributing to a robust design system
- Knowledge of and experience upholding accessibility standards (WCAG)
- Experience leveraging AI design tools
- Familiarity with Agile Scrum practices
- Experience with Git, Qt/QML, or code authoring for test and integration purposes is a strong plus
- Ability to pass Blue’s Standard Background Check
