Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications and services
Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and web services
Write clean, maintainable, reusable and well-documented code
Design, develop and optimize databases and data-access layers
Integrate backend systems with third-party APIs, applications and services
Implement authentication, authorization and data-security controls
Troubleshoot, debug and resolve application and production issues
Conduct unit, integration and performance testing
Participate in code reviews and contribute to development standards and best practices
Collaborate with frontend developers on API and system integration
Support CI/CD pipelines, deployments and production environments with DevOps teams
Monitor application performance and identify optimization opportunities
Contribute to system architecture, technical documentation and solution design
Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning and technical discussions
Maintain version control and development workflows using Git
Support continuous improvement of development processes, tools and technical standards

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience with one or more of: Java, C#, Python, Node.js, TypeScript, PHP
RESTful API development
Web services and API integrations
Microservices architecture
Authentication and authorization
API security and performance optimization
Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB or similar technologies
Git and version control
CI/CD pipelines
Docker and containerization
Kubernetes is advantageous
Cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud
Logging, monitoring and application performance management
Bachelor's degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field
3+ years of professional backend development experience
Strong experience developing backend applications and APIs
Experience working with databases and data modelling
Experience with software development methodologies and Agile environments
Strong understanding of software development lifecycle principles
Experience with cloud technologies and containerization is advantageous
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
Excellent programming and debugging skills
Strong understanding of backend architecture and development principles
Attention to detail and commitment to code quality
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to manage priorities and meet project deadlines
Continuous-learning mindset with an interest in emerging technologies
