About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead a team of engineers building end-to-end products where agents and humans work together, from prototypes through production
Own technical direction and architecture for LLM-powered systems, including agents, retrieval, evaluation, and reliability infrastructure
Write production code, review designs and pull requests, and unblock the team on difficult problems
Set standards for code quality, testing, observability, and AI-output evaluation
Establish effective use of AI tools and coding agents while maintaining quality
Collaborate with political researchers, data scientists, and engineers to turn ambiguous problems into clear plans and usable software
Mentor and grow engineers through feedback, pairing, and code review
Help hire team members
Plan and sequence work across the election cycle and make deadline tradeoffs
Learn political strategy to build systems aligned with users' goals and thought processes

Requirements

What you’ll need

8+ years of experience as a software engineer
2+ years as a tech lead or engineering lead
Track record of shipped products
Hands-on experience building products on top of LLMs
Strong product instincts
Experience improving engineers through mentorship, thoughtful processes, and clear technical writing
Ability to turn ambiguous problems into an executable team plan
Motivation by Blue Rose Research's mission and interest in learning the progressive political ecosystem
Candidates must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States
Prior political or civic-tech experience is welcome but not required
