About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Monitor daily and weekly performance of utility-scale and DG-scale PV sites against weather-adjusted expected production
  • Identify underperformance at site, inverter, combiner/recombiner, string, and tracker levels using SCADA and DAS platforms
  • Track and triage inverter faults, tracker stow/follow anomalies, and communication outages
  • Escalate issues to O&M vendors with supporting data
  • Maintain real-time fleet-health dashboards in Metabase, Power BI, or similar tools
  • Design and build scalable alarming and monitoring tools, exception reports, and automated notifications
  • Build and maintain loss-waterfall analyses covering availability, curtailment, soiling, clipping, degradation, and wiring/DC losses
  • Calculate contractual availability and performance-ratio metrics under O&M and PPA agreements
  • Query and manipulate large time-series datasets using SQL/PostgreSQL
  • Automate recurring reporting with Python and pandas
  • Use AI tools to accelerate data cleaning, script writing, and report generation while validating outputs
  • Build and maintain expected-generation models using PVsyst, SAM, PlantPredict, or in-house models
  • Update models for as-built conditions, equipment changes, degradation curves, and shading/soiling assumptions
  • Support P50/P90 production forecasting and budget-versus-actual variance analysis
  • Validate model assumptions against operating data and refine models over time
  • Partner with O&M vendors on performance-guarantee true-ups and dispute resolution
  • Support procurement and engineering teams with equipment-reliability data
  • Support technical due diligence for acquisitions and portfolio growth
  • Present findings to internal stakeholders and occasionally asset owners and investors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2–3 years of experience in solar performance engineering, asset management, O&M, or a closely related analytical role in renewable energy
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Working knowledge of PV system fundamentals, including inverter operation, string/central architecture, tracker systems, revenue metering, irradiance, temperature, and soiling
  • Hands-on experience with AlsoEnergy PowerTrack or a comparable SCADA/DAS/historian platform
  • Familiarity with the PowerTrack API for automated reporting and data-pull processes
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying large datasets
  • Comfort with Python, pandas, and matplotlib/plotting libraries for analysis and automation
  • Familiarity with PVsyst, SAM, PlantPredict, or similar performance modeling tools, or strong quantitative aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to read electrical single-line diagrams and site layout/LBD drawings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to turn messy data into a clear narrative for non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-directed and comfortable owning ambiguous problems
  • Comfortable using AI tools, LLMs, and coding assistants, with the judgment to verify AI-generated output
  • Experience with Modbus register-level troubleshooting or inverter fault code analysis (nice to have)
  • Exposure to BESS performance and dispatch data (nice to have)
  • Experience with Metabase, Power BI, or Tableau (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with O&M contract structures, availability guarantees, and liquidated damages calculations (nice to have)
