About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage a defined portfolio of high-risk borrowing accounts to reduce the Bank’s loss exposure and manage risks
- Advise internal and external stakeholders on complex, high-risk credit transactions and mitigation strategies
- Make credit decisions and recommendations in accordance with sound credit-granting principles and Bank policies and procedures
- Work with stakeholders to deepen relationships and grow portfolio profitability
- Recommend alternatives to credit proposals, including restructuring applications and using special loan plans
- Contribute to development and implementation of lending policies and procedures
- Act as a trusted advisor to the assigned business/group
- Influence and negotiate with debtors and guarantors to achieve business objectives
- Analyze issues and implications and recommend and implement solutions
- Assist in developing strategic plans and identifying emerging issues and trends
- Design and develop tools and training programs and may deliver training
- Conduct independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues
- Build and lead change-management and communication activities
- Provide technical expertise, coaching, and advice to team members and sales/service employees
- Coordinate workflow and exception requests and escalate concerns
- Monitor financial and risk performance of the account portfolio
- Perform financial and risk analysis to improve quality, liquidity, and the Bank’s security position
- Document credit-transaction decisions, rationale, terms, conditions, and collateral requirements
- Monitor economic and market developments affecting the portfolio
- Support strategic initiatives with internal and external stakeholders, including legal and insolvency professionals
- Gather and format data into regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards
- Monitor and track performance and address issues
- Execute work to deliver timely, accurate, and efficient service
- Provide specialized consulting, analytical, and technical support
- Apply BMO’s Risk Management Framework and make sound, risk-informed decisions aligned with business strategy, policies, laws, and regulations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Typically 5 - 7 years of relevant experience
- Post-secondary degree in related field of study or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Credit qualifications and associated credit knowledge and skills according to established qualification standards
- In-depth knowledge of banking products & services
- In-depth knowledge of industry trends and regulations
- In-depth knowledge of credit portfolio management policies & procedures and financing guidelines
- Proven leadership skills and highly developed coaching skills
- Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience
- In-depth verbal and written communication skills
- In-depth collaboration and team skills
