About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own the architecture and engineering quality of every client build from first prototype to production in the client's environment
Shape solution architecture across models, clouds and platforms
Make defensible build, buy or configure decisions for client CTOs
Set engineering standards for AI output evaluation, security, data governance, observability and production reliability
Build reusable components, patterns and internal products
Serve as BOI's senior technical voice with client CTOs, CIOs and business executives
Explain technical choices in terms of cost, risk and value
Lead client security, compliance and procurement reviews
Work forward deployed in client environments alongside client teams
Scope and estimate builds for proposals with Directors of Applied AI
Turn delivered work into case studies, reusable IP and technical thought leadership
Lead, coach and grow the engineering team, roughly doubling it over the next year
Set high standards, provide direct feedback and give credit generously
Run AI-first ways of working across engineering
Help build BOI alongside the leadership team in the US and Europe

Requirements

What you’ll need

Shipped AI systems to production at enterprise scale, inside environments with real security, compliance and data constraints
Led engineering in a consultancy, agency or other project-based environment
Comfort with work that changes shape every few months and with stacks you didn't choose
Founded a company or been early at a startup
Ability to build the team as well as the system
Ability to make good decisions before everything is known
Ability to explain technical choices to non-technical executives in plain language
Experience with Azure, AWS and Google Cloud environments
Experience with AI output evaluation, security, data governance, observability and production reliability
Experience leading client security, compliance and procurement reviews
