About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support hardware, firmware, and software development of electro-optical systems
  • Support the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division’s Space Domain Awareness R&D mission
  • Contribute to the development, optimization, and maintenance of control solutions
  • Perform hands-on mathematical modeling, simulation, and data analysis
  • Analyze system behavior, including stability, linearity, and transient/steady-state responses
  • Design, develop, and implement advanced control strategies
  • Analyze real-world system data to refine and improve control algorithms
  • Design, develop, and validate advanced algorithms in MATLAB and Simulink
  • Develop and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop and Software-in-the-Loop tests for algorithm validation
  • Create, control, and instrument real-time applications directly from Simulink models
  • Deploy models on real-time simulation platforms such as Speedgoat or National Instruments
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team at the Starfire Optical Range

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance required; U.S. Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance or equivalent after starting
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or directly related non-U.S. equivalent qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience with Control Theory and Design
  • 2+ years of experience with MATLAB and Simulink
  • Willingness to work variable shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
  • U.S. Person status required for U.S. export control compliance
  • Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status
  • Mid-level: 5+ years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Lead: 9+ years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with at least two advanced control techniques, such as MPC, LQR, robust control, or adaptive control
  • Strong mathematical foundation, including linear algebra, differential equations, and optimization theory
  • Deep understanding of classical and modern control theory, including state-space methods, frequency response, stability analysis, and robust control concepts
  • 1+ years of experience in C/C++ for embedded software development
  • 1+ years of experience with Speedgoat real-time target computers and I/O modules
  • 1+ years of experience with MATLAB App Designer
  • Experience designing and implementing control algorithms
  • Successful candidates must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest assessment process
