About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and manage a multi-discipline Design team, setting objectives, mentoring engineers, allocating work and building capability
- Manage relationships with internal and external design stakeholders
- Own design decisions and trade-offs, document rationale and accept responsibility for outcomes
- Establish and enforce design standards, best practices and verification/validation strategies
- Lead supplier selection, design optimisation, test planning and production ramp-up
- Represent Design in programme governance by presenting design status, risks, technical decisions and resource needs
- Lead proposal and bid support, including Statements of Work, Basis of Estimates and technical sections
- Develop, integrate and document system requirements to establish the Product design baseline
- Lead development, verification and lifecycle maintenance of product and component designs using 3D CAD and engineering tools
- Integrate analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components
- Lead design and manufacturing activities supporting production, assembly, test and sustainment
- Select materials, define processes and drive manufacturability and serviceability improvements
- Drive adoption of additive manufacturing and tooling/process improvements
- Develop design/analysis processes and tools to improve quality, cycle time and design robustness
- Coordinate multi-discipline repair and sustainment activities to meet MRO and regulatory needs
- Foster open communication, diverse viewpoints and constructive conflict resolution across teams and suppliers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Eligibility for UK SC Security Clearance; applicants must be able to obtain the necessary clearance
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Aeronautical or Material Sciences
- Experience in tooling design and manufacturing
- Demonstrable knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
- Supplier management experience, including SOW/BOE preparation and supplier performance oversight
- Demonstrated leadership experience leading small to medium engineering teams, mentoring engineers and managing stakeholders to deliver complex technical outcomes
- 5+ years’ experience in a design and repair/maintenance engineering environment
- Proven track record of making timely technical decisions and accepting accountability for deliverables, quality and schedule
- Experience with CAD and PLM tools; Catia / NX, and desirable Enovia and TeamCenter experience
- Familiarity with MRO operations and regulatory administrative processes
- Understanding of international standards, including ISO, SAE/AS, EASA/ICAO standards
- Experience working with UK legislation and regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and customers
- Collaborative, respectful leadership style; promotes psychological safety and continuous improvement
- Current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom
