About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead spacecraft and subsystem engineers during launch and early orbit activities to commission spacecraft
  • Serve as lead technical authority for space and ground segment mission operations
  • Support the full mission lifecycle from proposal and mission modeling through decommissioning
  • Define ground and mission operations requirements and flow requirements to the space vehicle team
  • Define mission concepts of operation and design reference missions
  • Catalogue lessons learned from on-orbit exercises to improve future vehicle designs
  • Support ground segment design, including command and control, mission planning, mission data processing, and related infrastructure
  • Implement and test spacecraft fault detection, response, autonomy, and onboard command and control
  • Develop and implement operational automation methods
  • Create and execute spacecraft simulator tests
  • Create and execute in-factory flight vehicle tests
  • Conduct ground segment testing, including RF compatibility, remote ground facility interface, and critical ground asset acceptance testing
  • Form and lead anomaly response teams during off-nominal vehicle conditions
  • Contribute to customer briefings and debriefings for orbital events
  • Design and validate sequences of events for bus commissioning, payload checkout/calibration, and mission operations
  • Contribute to mission rehearsals to train the mission team and validate mission design

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Software, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Mission Operations or similar
  • Experience with real-time satellite command and control
  • Willingness to support occasional off-nominal working hours during critical 24/7 mission operations activities
  • Willingness to apply for a TS clearance with SCI eligibility
  • U.S. citizenship required for the required U.S. security clearance
  • Final U.S. Secret clearance pre-start, or interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance post-start
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens and eligible for a security clearance
  • Must be willing to apply for and maintain a security clearance
  • U.S. Person required for U.S. export control compliance
  • Must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest assessment process
  • Must satisfy drug testing requirements when criteria are met
  • Preferred: M.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Software, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Preferred: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Mission Operations or similar
  • Preferred: Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams
  • Preferred: Deep knowledge of satellite systems engineering, including all satellite subsystems
  • Preferred: Experience with Spacecraft Command & Control software systems
  • Preferred: Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, C/C++, and Java
  • Preferred: Active TS clearance and SCI eligibility
