About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support advancement of ground-based electro-optical tracking and imaging systems
  • Lead design, simulation, and integration of high-precision optical systems
  • Transition conceptual opto-mechanical frameworks into functional experimental hardware
  • Support the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division's Space Domain Awareness mission
  • Support development, optimization, and maintenance of control solutions
  • Perform hands-on optical design, ray tracing, and wavefront modeling
  • Analyze optical system performance, including wavefront error, stray light, and distortion across temperature and structural variations
  • Design, model, implement, optimize, and validate advanced optical architectures and complex optical systems
  • Analyze interferometry, wavefront, and metrology data to refine design tolerances and improve alignment strategies
  • Execute optical bench testing, assembly integration, and interferometric verification
  • Integrate optical designs with precision opto-mechanical mounts, active deformable mirrors, and sensor payloads on laboratory and telescope platforms

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance; U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Ability to obtain U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance or equivalent after starting
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or directly related non-U.S. equivalent qualification
  • 2+ years of experience in optical design
  • 2+ years of experience with design, development, testing, and troubleshooting of advanced Electro-Optical Systems
  • Willingness to work variable shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
  • Mid-Level: 5+ years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced study in Optical Specialization
  • Experience with adaptive optics systems
  • Experience with high power lasers
  • Knowledge of multi-discipline integration issues for IR/EO, visible, UV, photonics, fiber, high energy laser, and optics systems
  • 5+ years of modeling and/or simulation of Electro-Optical and Infrared systems using Matlab, Mathematica, or another technical computing language
  • Must satisfy the Company's Conflict of Interest assessment process
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements as a U.S. Person
  • Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status
