About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead a team of engineers, analysts, and staff in developing, assembling, integrating, and testing a constellation of satellites
- Drive technical excellence across Optical Sensor development activities
- Troubleshoot sensor design and integration issues involving telescopes and sensor focal planes
- Provide technical leadership to SMS and BTI sensor teams
- Serve as primary technical interface with EO/IR suppliers
- Oversee and approve technical approaches, products, and processes
- Collaborate with program managers, chief engineers, and other Boeing teams
- Ensure mission success and prompt resolution of anomalies
- Mentor and coach Optical Sensor Engineers and Technicians
- Perform Technical Lead Engineer functions for assigned mentees
- Drive best practices supporting cost, schedule, quality, and technical objectives
- Capture lessons learned and best practices for future programs
- Resolve complex problems affecting program milestones
- Coordinate with Boeing and customer leadership on technical issues and strategy
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a directly related non-US equivalent qualification
- Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required)
- 9+ years of experience with the design of mission systems, sensors, or sensing systems
- 15+ years of engineering experience
- Experience with space and/or airborne systems
- Experience with optical design
- Experience working on opto-mechanical and/or electromechanical designs
- Experience with systems design, integration, and test
- Experience modeling electro-optical systems using Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, or similar
- Experience modeling and/or simulating Electro-Optical and Infrared systems with Matlab, Mathematica, or similar technical computing language
- Experience in electro-optical design and analysis using Zemax, CodeV, or equivalent software
- Experience with optics, including lasers, optical alignment, opto-mechanical systems, and optical metrology
- Willing and able to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally
- U.S. export control compliance eligibility as a U.S. Person
