About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive learning design work within content initiatives from brief through launch
  • Make and document key design decisions in partnership with the PM and Senior Director of Learning Design
  • Translate strategic direction into design frameworks, item blueprints, and content specifications
  • Maintain quality and coherence across collections or initiatives
  • Write and review formative assessment items
  • Set distractor logic standards and address systemic quality gaps
  • Ensure consistent grade-band differentiation
  • Provide feedback and model design thinking to develop other learning designers
  • Build guidelines, worked examples, rubrics, and workshops when systemic quality gaps arise
  • Partner on AI content pipelines, prompt design, output evaluation frameworks, and quality rubrics
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows with AI tooling
  • Represent learning design in product discovery and development
  • Flag scope, quality, and resourcing risks to the Senior Manager of Learning Design

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Education, Instructional Design, or Curriculum & Instruction
  • Master’s preferred in Education, Instructional Design, or Curriculum & Instruction
  • Strong portfolio of K–8 formative assessment items for digital learning products
  • 7+ years designing K–8 curriculum and learning experiences for edtech
  • Deep knowledge of learning research and classroom application
  • Experience in K–8 instructional design and assessment development for multilingual learners strongly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of K–8 standards in at least one core subject area; Science or Math preferred
  • Understanding of WIDA framework and standards, and national and state-specific ELD standards strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading design work within a content initiative
  • Demonstrated experience with prompt design, output evaluation, or rubric design for AI-generated content
  • Systematic AI-assisted content workflow experience required
  • Digitally fluent; comfortable with CMS and AI-assisted content workflows
  • Candidates must reside in an approved hiring state or another state considered based on role needs
  • Remote work in the US, with Eastern Time Zone strongly preferred
