About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess adolescent and adult patients, or patients across the lifespan, based on symptoms and complaints
  • Assess patients’ mental and physical status
  • Diagnose psychiatric disorders and distinguish physiologically based from psychologically based disorders
  • Conduct individual psychotherapy for chronic or acute mental disorders
  • Order diagnostic testing, including EKGs and lab work
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, and educate patients about risks, benefits, and side effects
  • Monitor medication usage, side effects, and treatment results
  • Evaluate patient behavior and response to treatment
  • Verbally de-escalate difficult patients when necessary
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members on treatment plans
  • Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment plans, and medications
  • Document medical and psychological histories, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes
  • Complete administrative patient-care documentation, including FMLA and approved forms
  • Schedule and coordinate follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment needs
  • Complete patient visits and accurate documentation in the EHR
  • Practice in compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, national standards of care, and internal policies
  • Consult recommended references and the Clinical Director and/or Medical Director for clinical guidance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 years of experience practicing as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Currently holds a Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner license (PMHNP)
  • Experience in addiction and mental health
  • Open to obtaining additional state licensures
  • Motivational Interviewing experience
  • Willingness to work in partnership with clients to achieve goals
  • Experience working with adults needing general mental health and/or severe mental illness treatment
  • Experience and comfort working with patients across the lifespan (ages 13+)
  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and/or substance abuse dual diagnoses
  • Treatment planning experience
  • Ability to conduct and utilize comprehensive assessments
  • Timely, quality documentation and experience with EHRs
  • Adaptable to technology, including telehealth software; comfortable with video communication
  • Awareness of and compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without visa sponsorship or renewal
  • For clinicians holding a Florida or New York license, active DEA registration is required and must be obtained and maintained by the clinician
  • Spanish-speaking proficiency is preferred; proficiency in other languages is a plus
  • Previous telehealth experience is preferred
  • Previous Community Mental Health sector experience is preferred
