About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and deliver safeguarding investigations ranging from low-level concerns to complex, high-risk and sensitive cases
- Assess, monitor and manage actual or potential risks to children throughout investigations
- Ensure the child's welfare, lived experience and voice are central to investigation planning and decisions
- Conduct thorough, consistent and timely end-to-end investigations
- Explore all relevant lines of enquiry using professional curiosity
- Apply internal and external thresholds and criteria to determine investigation approaches
- Evaluate and escalate matters to the LADO when thresholds are met or consultation is required
- Make appropriate referrals to the LADO, Children's Services, Police and/or Ofsted
- Produce evidence-based investigation reports, findings and recommendations
- Maintain comprehensive, accurate and compliant case records and decision-making rationales
- Handle sensitive information in accordance with data protection, confidentiality and information-sharing requirements
- Participate in safeguarding investigation quality assurance activity
- Work with the Head of Investigations on complex or high-risk cases
- Support coordination of cases requiring regulatory notifications
- Identify themes and learning to improve safeguarding practice
- Provide updates and reporting on investigation progress, risks and outcomes
- Collaborate with Operations, HR, Legal, Regulatory Specialists, operational leaders and external agencies
- Travel ad hoc to nurseries and offices in Northampton and London
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience conducting safeguarding investigations or managing complex casework
- Strong understanding of safeguarding processes and principles
- Ability to assess risk and manage cases effectively
- Experience producing clear and accurate case documentation
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
- Experience within early years, education, childcare, healthcare or other safeguarding-focused environments (desirable)
- Experience working with regulatory bodies, Local Authorities or inspection frameworks (desirable)
- Knowledge of employment processes relating to investigations, such as disciplinaries (desirable)
- Safeguarding or investigation-related training or accreditation (desirable)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Good judgement and decision-making skills
- Professional and calm handling of sensitive issues
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Organised and able to manage multiple cases
