About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform echocardiograms, including two-dimensional ultrasound imaging and Doppler flow analysis
  • Perform transesophageal, stress, and transthoracic echocardiograms on patients of all ages
  • Verify ordered procedures against patients’ clinical histories and symptoms
  • Recognize abnormalities and obtain additional diagnostic images as needed
  • Follow laboratory protocols and document exceptions
  • Perform IV insertion and management
  • Prepare and administer ultrasound-enhancing agents
  • Maintain sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination
  • Travel to multiple facilities as required
  • Explain procedures and preparation steps to patients
  • Gather clinical information from patients and medical records
  • Adjust equipment controls and transducer positioning to obtain optimal images and Doppler data
  • Differentiate artifacts from true anatomic or pathologic structures and adjust technique
  • Measure cardiac wall thickness, chamber sizes, and blood flow velocities
  • Calculate cardiac physiology metrics and valve areas
  • Document and transmit diagnostic data into the digital archive system
  • Recognize and urgently report critical findings to the appropriate provider
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow equipment operation and maintenance standards
  • Participate in departmental QA processes and assist with accreditation data collection
  • Maintain knowledge of vascular disease
  • Perform minor preventive maintenance and keep labs clean and stocked

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • College-level coursework in Echocardiography with extensive training in anatomy and disease
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Echocardiography from an accredited program preferred
  • Must hold RDCS, RVT, or CCI registry through ARDMS; registry-eligible candidates must obtain certification within one year of placement
  • BLS certification required upon hire or within six months
  • Basic PC skills for departmental databases and office software
  • Ability to work effectively with managers, physicians, coworkers, and patients
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, diplomacy, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in all interactions
  • Ability to perform detailed work and use computers for 40–70% of the shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with heavier tasks
  • Ability to push, pull, and handle equipment and patients frequently
  • Ability to maintain required professional credentials and complete echo-specific CME to meet IAC accreditation standards
  • Pediatric echocardiography competency required within six months of beginning pediatric training for employees cross-training in adult and pediatric sonography
