About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team and provide patient-centered care
- Assess nutrition needs and develop, implement, evaluate, and report nutrition care plans
- Interpret, evaluate, and use current nutrition research
- Coordinate activities according to department policies and healthcare-team goals
- Interact with patients, caregivers, families, and healthcare providers
- Provide evidence-based care that supports diversity and cultural factors
- Deliver patient, community, and staff education programs, individually or in groups
- Participate in community health and well-being improvement
- Screen patients and review medical records to identify increased nutritional risk
- Analyze anthropometric, biochemical, laboratory, feeding, and intake data
- Document nutritional assessments, nutrition problems, interventions, teaching plans, discharge plans, and follow-up
- Prescribe age- and disease-specific nutrition interventions and adjust plans of care based on patient response
- Provide phone follow-up and support continuity of care
- Review records for process improvement and compliance
- Perform department-specific skills such as nutrition-focused physical examination, motivational interviewing, and MNT/DSME billing as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics or Nutrition
- Master’s degree required if becoming a Registered Dietitian in 2024 and thereafter; RDs who graduated prior to 2024 are not required to possess a graduate degree
- Completion of a supervised practice program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND)
- Must be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) within 6 months of hire
- Additional certification, education, and experience may be required depending on the department; Diabetes Education requires obtaining CDCES credentials and completing insulin pump training and certifications
- High degree of computer competency, including Electronic Medical Record use
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously
- Ability to sustain alertness and concentration during detailed computer-based work
- Ability to perform regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some light lifting
