About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide clinical support to Cardiovascular Services and/or Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- Perform physician-ordered non-invasive cardiology tests, including 12-lead and signal-averaged EKGs, cardiac stress tests, Holter and event monitoring
- Supervise stress tests and pharmaceutical stress tests; administer Lexiscan and Definity according to policy and protocol
- Supervise Phase II and Phase III cardiac rehabilitation and monitor patient exercise
- Prescribe exercise programs and complete exercise prescriptions, evaluations, and individualized treatment plans
- Perform patient intake assessments, reassessments, discharge paperwork, body fat analysis, glucose testing, and EKGs as needed
- Monitor patients, equipment, heart rhythms, heart rate zones, blood pressure, blood glucose, weight, symptoms, and medication changes
- Prepare patients and testing rooms; place electrodes and connect monitoring equipment
- Evaluate test appropriateness and communicate abnormalities or patient concerns to physicians and professional staff
- Apply and instruct patients on Holter and event monitors; scan Holter recordings and identify irregularities for physician interpretation
- Attend and coordinate case review meetings with physicians and staff and coordinate patient care
- Obtain insurance prior authorizations and extensions
- Provide exercise education forums and home exercise guidance
- Perform clerical functions including answering phones, scheduling cases, arranging transport, copying studies, entering patient information and charges, and sending schedules to hospital departments
- Perform equipment maintenance, cleaning, stocking, daily defibrillator and glucometer checks, and open or close the exercise room
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or a related field required
- Previous 1 year experience in exercise testing of low and high-risk patients preferred
- Satisfactory completion of Basic EKG and Advanced EKG courses within 12 months of hire
- BLS certification required upon hire or within the first 90 days of employment
- ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire
- Certified by the American College of Sports Medicine preferred
- Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served
- Proficiency in managing PC applications
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Strong assessment skills to determine appropriateness of patient test protocol
- Critical thinking skills to determine end points of test
- Recognition of critical arrhythmias
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, managers, employees, physicians, and customers
- Ability to work effectively within a small work group, handle conflict assertively, resolve issues diplomatically, and participate in problem-solving
- Ability to regularly talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands for fine motor skills, and occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, lift or move up to 50 pounds, and move quickly during emergencies
- Specific vision abilities including close vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
