About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine Respiratory Care procedures according to established standards in General Patient Care areas under direct supervision
- Perform respiratory care procedures in Adult Critical Care, Pediatric and Neonatal Critical Care, and Emergency Department settings under supervision
- Direct and oversee associates assigned to work with the therapist during advanced procedures such as mechanical ventilation
- Demonstrate competencies specific to the population served when providing direct patient care
- Perform as an integral part of the patient care team
- Assess patients’ respiratory status using chart/monitor review and physical assessment
- Perform basic respiratory care procedures, including oxygen delivery and medication administration
- Assemble, check, and correct malfunctions associated with Respiratory Care equipment
- Under supervision of an LRT, perform measurements/calculations and assist in determining mechanical ventilation parameters
- Under supervision of an LRT, perform emergency and acute Respiratory Care procedures
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members regarding patient care
- Communicate regularly with the shift charge therapist regarding area activity and availability to assist
- Participate in department performance improvement activities
- Assume responsibility for professional development
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program for Respiratory Care
- Experience in an acute care setting preferred
- Successful completion of Therapist Multiple-Choice Examination (TMC) within 90 days from date of graduation
- Must acquire Licensure from the State of Michigan; Status as Graduate Respiratory Therapist will be maintained until State of Michigan License is granted
- Current BLS certification
- Satisfactory performance on the respiratory care medication competency test
- Completion of the respiratory department requirements for orientation, including Hospital, Core, and Department specific orientation
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing; accurately record activities and treatments and communicate technical information and instructions
- Excellence in internal and external customer service
- Ability to regularly lift bulky or moderately heavy weights up to 50 pounds and occasionally assist with heavier tasks or equivalent pushing, pulling, or handling effort
